Self-build and new-build heat pump grants

Last verified: 20 August 2026 — against GOV.UK.

A self-build can qualify for the £7,500 grant if you built it yourself or are the original owner and it was never owned by a business — you may be asked for title deeds as proof. The £5,000 biomass grant is not available on self-builds.

Self-build properties are eligible for the standard Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant provided the home was built by you or the original owner and has never been owned by a business. Because that is easy to claim and harder to prove, you may be asked for title deeds showing you built it.

A finished new build with a fossil-fuel boiler may be able to apply. A new build still under construction cannot. And the biomass boiler grant, which is limited to off-gas rural properties with an emissions certificate, is not available on self-builds at all.
