Replacing a heat pump in Scotland: loan only, no grant
Last verified: 20 August 2026 — against Home Energy Scotland.
This is the gap almost nobody writes down. In Scotland a first heat pump can draw a £7,500 grant plus an optional £7,500 interest-free loan. But if you are replacing a heat pump that is already there, the grant falls away and only the loan remains — up to £7,500, interest-free.
One more detail worth knowing: you do not need an EPC for a renewable system such as a heat pump. An EPC is only required for energy efficiency measures. No benefits are required either, and MCS certification is mandatory.
